Santanna Tates, Winnipeg Manitoba (June 22, 2017)

Fans, Racers, Crew members and Staff were not so lucky last week as the show rained out but this week mother nature held off and allowed for racing to continue at Red River Co-op Speedway. Heavy rainfall the past few days made for some rather tricky track conditions as turns one and two were tacky while three and four were slick however, everyone was excited to get the show in before the rain came back again.

In the 4 cylinder class Ryan “Higgy Baby” Higgins picked up his first win for the 2017 race season. Dean Miljure, who is no stranger to victory lane nabbed second and Sheldon Simoens came in third place. Denis Seguin finished fourth and rookie Alexander Farr in fifth.

Austin Hunter impressively took home win number 11 this year and his second at Red River Co-op Speedway for the 2017 season. The #30 of Darren Boychuck had a nice run finishing second. Paul Veert grabbed third and Jason Somack picked up fourth making it his second top five finish this year in the Midwest Modified division.

The A-Mods featured our local drivers as well as many coming in from the US and neighbouring provinces which, made for a higher car count and great racing. The #1r of Rick Delaine made it to victory lane for the first time this year and held off Dan Ebert for the win. Dan Ebert of Minnesota paid his first visit to Red River Co-op Speedway and raced like he had been here many times before, earning himself second place. Lee McRae picked himself up a third place finish, Jerome Guyot took fourth and Ward Imrie fifth.

In the Northern Super Truck class Jamie Vernaus found himself in victory lane as he picked up his first win this year at Red River Co-op. Dustin Enns placed second, Rick Lowey finished third, Jesse Pederson fourth and Dan Klim fifth. Big Contender, Jeff Rempel was hit badly and despite the efforts of his crew and other drivers to get him back on the track, he was unable to finish the race.

In the Late model division Ricky Weiss surprised his fans by making a visit to his home track this week. Weiss has been making big moves and headlines racing down south the past year. It comes as no surprise that he was able to pick up the win for the night. Dustin Strand raced hard and fast but wasn't able to get a head of Weiss and took home second. Rick Fawcett finished in the top three picking up third, Kevin Sexton and Bill Mooney rounded up the top five.

Racing Continues Thursday June 29th at Red River Co-op Speedway. The Canada Day Celebration will feature Late Model, Modified, Super Truck, Pure Stock and 4 Cylinder classes. Don't forget to stick around after the show for Fireworks.
