Red River Co-op Speedway added 21 new photos to the album: July 21, 2016.

With temperatures over 30C, the track wasn't the only thing that was hot!

Race Day Sponsor Beaver Truck Centre and Murray Kozie Trucking enjoyed packed stands and great racing action. Dream Factory and Investors Group were also on-site talking about making dreams come true - kids and your own.

At Intermission we inducted two people into the Red River Co-op Speedway Hall of Fame. Daughter and Son, Susan and Rod Fidler accepted the plaque in honour of their Father and Norm Mannes accepted for Derrick Weiss who was away in Tennessee supporting his son Ricky Weiss race.

Wayne Fidler: Wayne Fidler was a seasoned driver who had a tremendous passion for racing. His career began in 1969 at the Brooklyn Speedway before racing Hobby Stock at Red River Co-op Speedway when it opened in 1973. Wayne was a great welder, mechanic and fabricator and he took great pride in building his own race cars, engines, trailers, and his early cars were often identifiable by the cartoon characters and Slogans they adorned such as Snoopy, โ€œSweet Revengeโ€ and โ€œOrange Peelโ€.

After several years in Hobby Stock he moved up to the Late Model class. After taking a few years off racing Wayne returned in the early 90โ€™s and raced in the Pro Stock class. He eventually made the switch to the always fierce and competitive Superstock class. Waynes perseverance and determination paid off and in 1995 he won the track championship with the infamous โ€œBad Bowtieโ€ red hot # 55. Wayne continued racing in the Superstock class until September 2005.

True to form, Wayneโ€™s last race at Red River Co-op Speedway was a nail-biter! During the last lap he inherited the lead and won at the finish line by a half car length at the checkered!

Wayne passed away in 2006 and leaves behind a loving family including Rod Fidler who races in the Super Truck Division.

Derrick Weiss: Derrick Weiss's introduction to dirt track racing was more than 20 years ago when he started helping Mike McCaughan as both pit crew and as a sponsor. It wasn't long until that wasn't enough and soon he was in the drivers seat himself, winning a championship in a Super Truck before moving on to a Super Stock.

In 2003, this racetrack ( then known as Victory Lane) was on the precipice of following the fate of so many racetracks across North America. Derrick stepped in and set about doing everything he could to secure the future of dirt track racing in Manitoba.
And so, the improvements began. New grandstands, decks, and VIP suites. He purchased more land to relocate the pits to the west side and provide more parking. New pit concession and washrooms. Remodelling of the main concession and alcohol vendor. A lap counter and scoreboard. New lighting. A valuable relationship with Red River Co-op was established resulting in a name change in 2006 to Red River Co-op Speedway.
Derrick was a visionary track owner, who understood the need to invest in order that future generations would continue to enjoy this sport that we all love so much.
