Red River Co-op Speedway added 23 new photos — at Manitoba Museum.

Manitoba Museum Project

On August 16, 2015, I received an email from Janet Rheault of the Manitoba Museum looking for sponsorship support for an exhibit they were renovating. While we talked, the wheels began turning and I told her that even though monetary support wasn’t available, I thought there were other ways that Red River Co-op Speedway might be able to help. At that moment, the " museum car " project was hatched.

In November, Rick Delaine called and told me he had an old Modifed chassis that he would donate to the project. I received directions from Rick and drove into a field, plucked the car out the weeds, and 26 months of work started.

We cut as much steel and tubing out of the car that we could, stripped it, painted it, cut one side of the car open so kids can climb in and out of it, completely rebuilt the cockpit, and put a new body on it. We calculated that we cut 400 lbs out of the car knowing we would have to carry it into the building, as the wheels are mounted solid so the car won't roll when kids are in it. The race car is designed to allow kids or adults to climb into it and seat themselves for photos. It has an active steering wheel and race seat complete with seat belts.

Over 100,000 people will enter the Science and Technology display over the course of a year, and we have the opportunity to hand out free tickets to Speedway events during Spring Break 2018, and again on Manitoba Day. 45,000 flyers will be included in the Winter/Spring Backpack flyer announcing the fact that tickets will be available.
There is also an opportunity for Red River Co-op Speedway drivers and staff to wear Speedway branded gear and volunteer for shifts during this time.

This is such an important project for both Red River Co-op Speedway and the Manitoba Museum. We are extremely grateful to be able to contribute to this incredible renovation knowing that people of all ages will be able to enjoy it for years to come.

I encourage everyone to get their "race fix" during the cold winter by visiting the Manitoba Museum's Engineered for Speed exhibit in the Science Gallery! All of us at Red River Co-op Speedway look forward to seeing you at the track in the spring of 2018!

I would like to thank Scott Young, Janet Rheault, Jaya Beange and all other Manitoba Museum staff for their support and guidance.
I'd also like to thank Glenda Manning, Carolyne Braid, Teresa Shepit, Rick Delaine, Ken Greer, Paul Veert, Steve Boulanger, Ryan Kereluk, and Jeff Rempel for their advice, support and hard work.
This could have never happened with out you.

Red River Co-op SpeedwaySuch a fabulous project came to fruition today! It's been a long time in the works and through the course of it I witnessed days of frustration, fussing, phone calls, etc ... many people would have given up on this project, but not my stubborn friend Blair. Way to go Blair Bodley! Wear your promoters title proudly! - Glenda
