Al Delaine was a fixture in racing since the 60’s; from drag strips to the dirt track, it didn’t matter to the “Big Al.”  When Red River Co-op Speedway opened in 1973, Al was there. He hung up his racing helmet up in 1978 but stayed involved either helping in the pits or with the track itself.

In the late 90’s Al wanted to raise the level of competition in racing and in an effort to help drivers fund their race programs, he created the Driver Point Fund. Since its inception, the fund has paid out over $300,000 back to the drivers.

Al sadly passed away in 2009 but his legacy continues to this day with a memorial race held in his honour. The race draws some of the best Modified drivers from across the country, all competing for a large pay-out while paying homage to a true promoter, fan, and leader in the sport.
